Tips for searching the library catalog

Subject Searching 

There are two main subject headings for social work:  Social Work Administration and Social Service.

There are sub-headings that will also be helpful.

Example:  social work administration--case studies

There are also many other subject headings that cover topics related to the concerns of social workers.

Example:  juvenile delinquency

Keyword Searching

You can also do a keyword search on any topic, but remember to use synonyms to cover your concepts completely.

Example:  homelessness AND (children OR youth)

Example:  (teenagers or adolescents) AND alcoholism

Title Searching

(Search by title and  limit your search to Journals/Serials to learn whether the library subscribes to a particular

periodical)

Example:  Child Abuse and Neglect (a hot link - http://www.sciencedirect.com/ means full text of recent years may be available online.

Example:  Social Work may be found on level two at the call number HV1.S675

Example:  Journal of Offender Rehabilitation--All issues go directly to the stacks at HV9261.O33
