Using Databases and E-Journals: Reporting Problems

Helpful instructions and tips for accessing and utilizing the library's electronic resources.

Reporting a Problem with an E-Resource

There may occasionally be a problem with an e-resource that will make it temporarily unavailable.  If an e-resource does not appear to be functioning properly, wait a few minutes and then try using it again. If this does not work and the resource is consistently unavailable, please report the problem to the Reference Desk at 803-777-4866 or by using the Ask-A-Librarian online chat service.  If the problem is encountered during off hours, please email

When reporting a problem, please have the following information ready to include:

  • Your name and contact information
  • What browser and what version of the browser you are using (e.g. Firefox 5.0)
  • Whether you are accessing the resource from an on or off-campus computer
  • Your operating system (e.g. Windows 7, Mac OS X, etc.)
  • If you are having trouble accessing a particular article, please provide a citation
  • Add the name of the resource that isn't working
  • Your starting point for accessing the resource (e.g. Articles and Databases page, QuickSearch, classic catalog, Full Text Finder / E-Journals, Google Scholar, emailed link, etc.)
