Using Databases and E-Journals: Getting the Full Text

Helpful instructions and tips for accessing and utilizing the library's electronic resources.

Steps to Getting the Full Text

When retrieving results from a database you will see different options for obtaining the full-text of articles.  Below is the order in which you will find the best option for locating the full-text of an article.

Option 1 - Direct Full-Text via Database

If a PDF and/or HTML full-text version of the article is provided by the database, a PDF and/or HTML logo will be provided under the article's title in the record.  Click on either logo to view the full-text of the article.

Option 2 - Find Text

The Full Text Finder link appears in place of a PDF or HTML logo.  Clicking  automatically searches our e-journal collections to determine if full-text access is available.

Option 3 - Print Format

If the full-text is not available via the Full Text Finder link, then click "Check the library catalog" link to determine if USC has the magazine/journal in hardcopy.  You will want to make certain that USC has the volume/issue/date needed.

Option 4 - Interlibrary Loan

If the library does not have access to the article online or in hardcopy, you can request a copy of the article from Interlibrary Loan.
