I. DeQuincey Newman (1911-1985) was a Methodist pastor, civil rights activist, and entrepreneur. He was a leading figure in the Civil Rights movement in South Carolina and the first African American to serve in the South Carolina Senate since Reconstruction. The Newman papers consist of correspondence, speeches, sermons, photographs and other records.
