USC Music Library's Southern African American Music Collection (SAMC) comprises print, audio-visual, and primary source materials related to African American music of the South.The SAMC archive demonstrates the centricity of Southern African American music by collecting and preserving this music, reflecting its significance both as a historical and living tradition.
James Weldon Johnson was a writer, poet, teacher, politician and lawyer. Thomas Cooper Library has developed a collection of his books and manuscripts through story-teller and librarian Augusta Baker. Of particular interest may be a small group of the poet's manuscripts. These four holograph poems were the seeds of our James Weldon Johnson Collection.
