Provost Loan Program

Update: This program is currently unavailable as it changes management to the Division of Information Technology via the Carolina Tech Zone.  

In collaboration with the Provost Office and The Division of Information Technology (DoIT), the University Libraries are able to distribute select devices for an entire semester.  This program is designed specifically for students that are in financial need and do not have access to the technology to help them in their coursework. UofSC faculty and staff are not eligible to borrow devices from the Provost Loan Program, but are eligible to borrow from the University Libraries Loan Program. 

*Devices in Provost Loan Program are limited and are only available on a first-come first-served basis. 

The following devices are available in the Provost Loan Program:

Dell Laptops

Dell Laptops are available per semester. Borrowers will have need to setup an account and install needed applications at their own discretion.

Major issues should be taken to the Carolina Tech Zone. If the Carolina Tech Zone deems the device to be in need of replacement, the borrower should return the device to the Library Technology Lounge help desk for replacement. 

We highly recommend using an online storage solution to save your data to as hardware issues may arise unexpectedly. Neither the University Libraries nor Division of Information Technology are responsible for lost data. 

Webcams

Logitech B525 webcams are available per semester. 

Polices and Accountability

Devices in this loan program belong to the University of South Carolina are provided to you on loan. Therefore, the student, by borrowing from this loan program agrees to the following:

• Damages should be reported to the Carolina Tech Zone (CTZ). If CTZ decides that a replacement is needed, borrowers should return to the Library Technology Lounge for a replacement. A replacement will not be given if the previous device is not returned as it needs to be removed from the borrower's account. 
• Borrowers will be held responsible for damages determined to be due to neglect. Take appropriate care of the technology. 
• Devices should be returned to the Technology Lounge help desk by the determined due date. Cost of the device will be added to the borrower's account 30 days after the due date.  If the borrower is unsure of their account status, they may sign into their library account.
• If the borrower is unable to return it by the due date, they should contact the Library Technology Lounge help desk.

Renewals

Items loaned from the Provost Loan program can be renewed after the due date has lapsed by at least one day. This is only possible if the borrower is enrolled for the following semester or academic year. Borrowers not registered will have an expiration date on their accounts and will not be able to borrow or renew past the due date.

Items may be renewed by logging into the borrowers library account.  

Privacy Notice

We value your privacy.

• Devices returned to the Technology Lounge help desk are wiped and reset.
• Borrowers may also notice that our IT team has an admin account on the laptop. This is only to expedite support when issues arise for the IT team and is not designed to gather data from users. 
• Though the device will be reset when returned, we understand that you may wish to do this yourself. Follow the below link for instructions to reset your device.
