ArchivesSpace User Guide

Harmful Content Statement

University Libraries provides access to its collections as an unaltered, historical record. Some collection materials include images or words that are offensive. We do not support or condone these harmful ideas, and we embrace a culture that prioritizes diversity and inclusion. We make these items available because they are critically important resources for education and research, while acknowledging their impact on various peoples and groups.

What is ArchivesSpace?

ArchivesSpace (aka ASpace) is a Finding Aid Database -- a site designed to help a user find the inventory of various archives at a single institution. This resource will describe what is stored in the archives, but you will need to request access in order to use the materials. Aspace is constantly being updated - be sure to check back or ask a librarian for help finding uncatalogued materials.

For USC patrons, primary documents can also be found through library databases. The A-Z database list is down below:

Search Tips

  • From the ASpace home page, you can search all repositories, with options similar to the USC Catalog (FindIt).

  • To browse all collections, click on the "Collections" tab on the top menu of the home page.

  • Not typo friendly - make sure everything is spelled correctly!

  • Use an asterisk (*) to do approximate or partial word searches.

  • "Subjects" and "Names" are shared across repositories.
