Filters / Facets


What filters appear, how they are labeled, the order of appearance and having a facet open (displaying some of the options) or closed are all customizable although the Discovery Working Group has made some recommendations.

Filters listed alphabetically by default label

Author / Creator


Collection (collections in Central Discovery Index)

Course Reserves

Creation Date

Institutions (PASCAL member institutions, by institution name)

Journal Title


Library (libraries within your institution)

Location (locations within your library/libraries)

New Records

Other Libraries (PASCAL libraries, by library name)

Resource Type



You can opt to include or exclude certain facet.  It's easier to do than to read about doing ;-)

  For each facet that you want to include / exclude, hover over the facet and then:

Include facet Select the check box on the left side of the facet.  
Exclude facet If you have not already marked a facet for exclusion or inclusion, you must first select the facet's check box and the click the button on the right side of the facet. If you have already included a facet, click the button on the right side of the facet to mark it for exclusion.  Otherwise, a single facet will be excluded immediately.  



Click Apply Filters to filter your results. The selected facets will appear in the Active filters section




Note:  Results will vary depending on whether you apply all filter choices at once or individually.


You can also retain your choices by locking them so they persist during subsequent searches. To make a facet persistent, hover the cursor over the facet in the Active filters section and then click the facet's padlock PadlockIcon.png.
