Ernest "Fritz" Hollings (1922-2019)Hollings represented South Carolina in the U.S. Senate, 1966 to 2005, as Governor and Lt. Governor, 1955 to 1963, and as a state legislator, 1949 to 1954. He was on the Commerce, Budget, and Appropriations committees, whose work impacted environmental policies, and was a key figure in the creation of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
