EndNote: An Introduction

Importing from PubMed

To Import References from PubMed:

  1. Run your search in PubMed.  Access PubMed through the library's homepage.  To access, start at library.sc.edu > Click on Articles and Databases > Click on the letter "P" and scroll until you see PubMed.
  2. Check the boxes by the desired references.
  3. From the "Send to" box, select "citation manager."On the top left of the PubMed results list, there will be a "Send to" button, third from the left. Select that button, then click "citation manager"

  4. Choose between "All results", "All results on this page", or "Selection"Pubmed is creating a file for an external citation management software. The chosen option is Selection, and it notes how many articles were selected (1)

  5. For EndNote Desktop users" Select "Open with" ... EndNote and create file.If using EndNote desktop, you will need to specify that the files need to be opened with Endnote - this will not be done automatically.

For EndNote Online users: Save and import in EndNote under "Collect -> Import References" with the Import Option set to "PubMed (NLM)"

  1. Check in your EndNote Library for Imported References.

Importing from CINAHL

To Import References from CINAHL:

1.  Run your search in CINAHL Complete. (To locate this database, start at the library's homepage> library.sc.edu > Click on Articles and Databases > Click on the letter "C" and scroll until you see CINAHL Complete.)

2.  Add your desired references to the folder.

3.  Click on the Folder tab located above the search boxes.

4.  From the right sidebar, click on Export.

5.  Select the option "Direct Export in RIS Format (e.g. CITAVI, EasyBib, EndNote, ProCite, Reference Manager, Zotero)" (EndNote Desktop users) OR "Direct Export to EndNote Web" (EndNote Online users)

 

Importing from Web of Science

To Import References from Web of Science:

  1. Run your search in Web of Science.  To locate this database, start at library.sc.edu > Click on Articles and Databases > Click on the letter "W" and scroll until you see Web of Science.
  2. Check the box beside the desired references.
  3. Under the Save to EndNote online drop-down menu, select "Save to EndNote desktop" (EndNote Desktop users) OR "Save to EndNote Online" (EndNote Online users)

      

Importing from Google Scholar

To Import References from Google Scholar:

1.  Go to Google Scholar: scholar.google.com

2.  Click on "Settings" (above the search box).

3.  Under Bibligraphy manager, select EndNote and Save. 

 

4.  Run your search in Google Scholar.  Click on "Import into EndNote."
