GAME RECAP: Late in the fourth quarter, Clemson’s David Treadwell kicked a 31-yard field goal to tie the favored Gamecocks 21-21 in a back and forth battle for bragging rights in the Palmetto State. Prior to Treadwell’s successful attempt, Scott Hagler missed a 41-yarder for the Gamecocks. Clemson took an early 8-0 lead before running back Harold Green got the Gamecocks on the scoreboard with a short plunge. Then Carolina defensive back Brad Edwards picked off a Rodney Williams pass and returned it 61 yards for the go-ahead touchdown. After Williams’ 35-yard completion to Terrance Roulhac, the Tigers regained the lead, before Todd Ellis hit Sterling Sharpe with a spectacular 72-yard pass and run to give the Gamecocks a short-lived lead. Treadwell cut the lead to three with a 37-yarder late in the first half. The only scoring in the second half came on Treadwell’s late field goal.
