The Libraries supports investments in open access monograph publishing. These investments provide opportunities for authors to make their scholarly monographs openly available, while ensuring global access to valuable research in ebook formats.
MIT Press's Direct to Open (D2O) initiative opens access to approximately 100 newly published titles annually, while granting participating libraries, including USC, term access to the MIT Press backlist.
The U-M Press Fund to Mission initiative hopes to convert at least 75% of its monographs each year to open access without charging authors any fees. Libraries, such as USC, invest in this initiative, and are granted perpetual access to the remaining restricted frontlist titles and term access to the backlist.
A collaboration between the University of South Carolina Libraries and University of South Carolina Press, Open Carolina makes scholarly publications available at no cost to the public.
